Courage is at the beginning of action and happiness is at the end.
Mongolia is known as the land of horses and is the most sparsely populated country in the world. Under Genghis Khan, it was the largest contiguous empire in world history, whose cultural roots continue to shape people's lives to this day.
The purpose of this trip was born out of a crazy idea. Without ever having sat on a horse, three friends decide to buy four horses and explore Mongolia on their own. After a week of preparation in the Terelj National Park, where, in addition to riding, the handling of horses and equipment is trained, we start this adventure.
For two weeks we travel on the backs of the horses. Along rivers, through magnificent trough valleys, over stony passes - always in view of the snow-covered Otgontenger, the holy mountain in the province of Zavkhan. We sell the horses to a nomadic family, where we spend the last three days of our riding tour.
In the far west, on the border with Russia, Mongolia shows a very different side: mountain lakes, glaciers above 4000 meters of altitude, camels and Kazakh culture - in the Tavan Bogd National Park an 8 day hike leads through one of the most spectacular landscapes.
In the north of the country, on the border with Siberia, dense coniferous forest is the dominant landscape. Following the rivers of Uur, Eg, Selenge and Tuul on a packraft, passing through endless Taiga, the journey finally ends in Mongolias capital Ulaanbatar.
