CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA

Two months reforestration project in Costa Rica´s Piedras Blancas National Park. Four months backpacking in Central & South America, crossing the continents on a sailing boat.

Costa Rica´s natural richness made the start of a formative journey to Latin America. After two months working on a reforestration project in Piedras Blancas Natural Park this travel route headed north passing Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala.

These three months brought a lot of unforgettable moments as diving the worlds second largest reef in Honduras, visiting hidden temples sorrounded by dense rain forest in Tikal or climbing volcano Tajamulco, the highest mountain in Central America.

After returning back to Costa Rica´s capital city San Jose the travel route continued to the south. From the colonial town of Portobelo in Panama a five day sailing trip passing the gorgeous Islands of San Blas allowed the traverse to a new continent: South America.

A bus ride from the carrebean coast of Colombia to Bogota soon revealed one thing: distances were much bigger here. Crossing the equator north of Quito intensified this impression. Travelling along the Andes down to the capital of Peru finally took another three months.

Numerous experiences as walking a small desert in Colombia, observing a volcano spewing out fire and biking up to a caldera lake in Ecuador highlighted this part of the trip, which finally ended up in an unforgettable hike in the Cordilleras Blancas.

The gladdest moment is a departure into unknown lands.
